Hi everyone, Just a quick announcement. If anyone would like to send us a care package while we’re hiking through Washington. Please send it to the address listed for Leavenworth, WA on our Washington PCT Mailing Addresses page. I have updated our ETAs for all of Washington, so the addresses there are all current. I … Continue reading A few quick updates
July 22nd Day 101 Mileage 19 I thought that today was the most beautiful day we’ve had on the trail. No contest. Better than the High Sierra. I don’t know what it was, but I just thought it was stunning. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
July 20th Day 99 Mileage: 15 Another nice day today. We hiked through gorgeous scenery for the most of the day, and only got rained on a little bit (we almost almost assuredly setting some sort of record for most days of rain on a PCT thru hike). We passed a road (Highway 4) in … Continue reading Day 99: Sick on the trail
July 17th Day 96 Mileage: 18.5 Well it’s official…. We’ve hiked 1,000 miles! Have we surpassed your expectations, because we’ve certainly surpassed Caitlin’s!? She tells me she didn’t know she could do what we’ve done, but somehow we both just keep on going. Today feels like a great milestone and I’m really proud of us. We … Continue reading Day 96: 1,000 miles and counting!
July 16th Day 95 Mileage: 16.1 We passed lots of lakes today and it was simply stunning from dawn to dusk. I’ll let the pictures do the talking…
July 15th Day 94 Mileage: 10.9 Today was the first day we did more relaxing on the trail rather than hiking! We stopped at an unnamed lake with a couple other hikers and went swimming for well over an hour (the luxury!)! The lake was relatively warm (probably mid 70s) and had nice rocks for … Continue reading Day 94: Enjoying the hike
July 14th Day 93 Mileage: 19.9 I have no clue how we made it so far today. Looking back at the pictures, it’s hard to appreciate just how steep it was in person, so you’re just going to have to trust me. I think this was our hardest day on trail yet! The nature of the trail … Continue reading Day 93: Not out of the Sierra yet…
July 12th Day 91 Mileage: 15.5 Today was fairly easy hiking. I think the highlight of the day was watching all the marmot babies emerge from their homes. It must be the season for them, because they are everywhere and they are super curious! They hear you coming and pop their faces out to see … Continue reading Day 91: Tuolumne Meadows
July 1st Day 80 Mileage: 15.7 This section we have nicknamed “too much water” due to the endless thunderstorms that have plagued us the past week. It does make for some dramatic pictures, but it has been very rough on us both. The night of July 1st was, according to a ranger, “the worst storm … Continue reading Day 80-84: Sierra Nevada, Part 2.5 – Too much water!
June 27th Day 76 Mileage 12.2 We left our comforts of camping with family and headed back over Kearsarge Pass to return to the PCT. It was a difficult day, because right after the large climb up Kearsarge we then had to tackle Glen Pass just a few miles later. It was surprisingly harder going … Continue reading Day 76-79: Sierra Nevada, Part 2: Pinchotttttttt!!!!
