We made our way to Bend, Oregon from Portland in a rental car. On the way there we dropped a resupply box off at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood and another at Big Lake Youth Camp near Santiam Pass. With our resupply for this section taken care of, we drove into Bend and met Uncle Jeff at the rental car drop off place.
From there Jeff very kindly drove us to Elk Lake Resort where we would get back on the PCT. Caitlin got an ice cream cone at the resort, then we made our way to the trailhead and said our goodbyes to Uncle Jeff. Thanks again for the ride Uncle Jeff!
We hiked about 6 miles in and camped at a nice little lake. We were exhausted after a long day of travel and were ready for bed!
The next day we hiked 20 miles past all three Sisters (these are large volcanoes in the Cascade Range)! It was incredibly beautiful. What a day, one of my favorites of the trip so far!
We even passed through an area with tons and tons of obsidian (which is a volcanic glass) all around. Amazing!
Our final day through this stretch took us through more lava fields than you can shake a stick at. So much lava and such tired feet from pounding all day on the sharp rocks!
We eventually made it to the Big Lake Youth Camp where our fist resupply package was being held. This camp just opens its doors to hikers with an incredible amount of generosity, asking for nothing in return. They hold packages for us, allow us to shower and use their restrooms, and also feed us! I have never encountered an establishment that is so hiker friendly. Thanks Big Lake Youth Camp!
After picking up our package, we found a place to camp on the lake outside of camp then took hot showers and used the camp restrooms. Ah the simple pleasures in life! We are camped on a black sand beach and life is good!
